Overview

Duane's List ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Duane's List website and platform, including tools for neighbors to build and share professional recommendation lists and for professionals to claim and manage profiles (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Service, how we use it, and what choices you have.

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

The short version: We collect only what we need to run the Service. We do not sell your personal information. Your lists and notes belong to you, and we never use your data for pay-to-rank advertising.

We do not use your private list notes or personal recommendations to sell advertising or to let professionals pay for higher placement.

Sharing & disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:

Service providers. We work with trusted third-party vendors (such as cloud hosting, email delivery, and analytics providers) who process data on our behalf under written agreements that prohibit them from using your data for any other purpose.

Public content you choose to share. When you make a list public or post a "would call again" response, that information is visible to other users of the Service as you intend. Private notes and non-public lists remain private unless you share them.

Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal process such as a court order or government request, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Duane's List, our users, or the public.

Business transfers. If Duane's List is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or a prominent notice on our website before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

With your consent. We may share information with third parties in other cases where you have given us explicit permission to do so.

Data retention

We retain your account and list data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you close your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 90 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, tax, or regulatory purposes.

Backups and archived copies may persist in secure, isolated storage for up to 12 months following deletion, after which they are permanently purged.

Security

We take the security of your data seriously. The Service is hosted on infrastructure that employs encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at [email protected].

Cookies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to operate and improve the Service. Specifically, we use:

  • Essential cookies required to keep you logged in and remember your session preferences
  • Analytics cookies that help us understand how users navigate the Service so we can improve it — this data is aggregated and not tied to personally identifiable information for advertising purposes

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to alert you when cookies are sent. If you disable essential cookies, some parts of the Service may not function correctly.

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights with respect to your personal information, including the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Delete your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions
  • Restrict or object to certain types of processing
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling your request.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, additional rights and protections may apply under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA respectively. Please contact us for more information.

Children

The Service is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice within the Service at least 14 days before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.

Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
